I prefer not to wrap up long holiday weekends with damage to my car, but a small pebble on Interstate 40 had other ideas on Tuesday morning:

Chipped windshield. I drew a one-inch line with a dry erase marker to show scale.

Some quick Internet research led me to the Blue Star Windshield Repair Kit on Amazon, and I purchased it for $8.25. I put the kit to use during lunch today, and I’m pleased with the results:

The bullseye is gone. Just a small ring remains.

The bullseye was transformed to a nick that’s a lot less noticeable, just as the kit’s packaging promises.

This video explains the process. Before you use the kit, be sure you are in a location with both shade and sun. You apply the fix in a shady area, but you move the car to full sun to cure the resin. My repair took less than an hour, and most of that time was waiting between steps.

The hardest part of the process? Taking in-focus before-and-after photos! My camera kept focusing on what was reflected in the windshield.
